Changua (Colombian Egg and Milk Soup)

ChanguaChangua is a typical breakfast in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. Until recently, I had never made Changua and I didn’t have a recipe. My mom loves this egg soup, so I gave her a call hoping that she had a recipe. Well, she did so now that’s two of mom’s recipes in a row.

In Bogotá, Changua is served for breakfast with bread on the side, but this soup can be eaten at any time of the day. It is also known to help with a hangover, so you can try it after your next party and let me know if it helped. :) Read more…

Colombian-Style Coconut Popsicles (Paletas de Coco)

coconutColombian-Style Popsicles are one of my absolute favorite summer snacks. You can make paletas with just about any kind of fruit. In Colombia we use all of the beautiful fruits the country has to offer, like papaya, guanabana, maracuya, lulo, mango, mora and guayaba. Colombian Tree Tomato Juice (Jugo de Tomate de Arbol en Leche)

It is tangy with a little sweetness, is a great source of Vitamin A, B6 and C and also contains Vitamin E and Thiamine. In Colombia it is used in juice, desserts, and sauces. AREQUIPE OR DULCE DE LECHE

I grew up eating this dessert and it’s one of my favorites. It is called arequipe in the region of Antioquia, Colombia, manjar blanco in other parts of the country and in the rest of South America it has different names such as dulce de leche, manjar Blanco and cajeta. In Colombia we serve arequipe with obleas or saltine crackers or just as a base for some typical desserts. Read more…
