Today I have two versions of Salpicón de Frutas Colombiano, the traditional one made with “Colombiana” a Colombian sparkling soda, and the other uses fresh watermelon juice. Both versions are absolutely delicious!
This simple and delicious Salpicón de Frutas Colombiano fruit cocktail is the perfect dessert in a summer day.
Ingredients
(6-8 SERVINGS)
- 6 cups assorted fresh fruit, such as pineapple, papaya, watermelon, mango, apple, banana, and seedless red grapes, cut into bite size pieces.
- 4 cups watermelon juice , Colombiana.
- Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Directions
- Place cut fruit in a large bowl, pour juice over fruit and stir.
- To serve, spoon fruit cocktail into tall glasses and top with vanilla ice cream.

This looks and sounds delicious. I can’t wait until spring when the fruit in this area is fresh to try this recipe. Looks like it would be refreshing to sit out on the deck and relax with this dessert.

It is not really a desert in Colombia, it is more of a snack sold on the street but of course it works as desert!

Apples dont grow in the tropics

The best ice cream shop that makes this delicious treat is in Medellion, Colombia. The lady that owns the shop adds a little passion fruit juice to the mix, puts the ice cream in the sundae glass first, pours the fruit over the ice cream, tops it with La Lachera (sweetened condensed milk), sticks a vanilla wafer in the side and will sprinkle on some shredded mild white Colombian cheese, if you wish. It’s absolutely to die for! We say hi to the family and then head straight to her place when we visit! It’s impossible to fully mimick in the States because our fruit is never as fresh and sweet as theirs, but you can come close.

The first time a went to Bucaramanga Colombia, my wife treated me to this “salpicon” and believe me, this is the best fruit coctail I have ever had. I tried it along and with ice cream and it is GREAT with the latter. Thanks for putting this recipe on the web. Now we can have it here in the USA.

There isn’t “colombiana soda” in Australia. Can I use other sodas?
Erica Dinho says
You can use orange juice or watermelon juice.

If you can get the Scottish “Ir’n Bru” – it is as identical as you wouldn’t know the difference.
It is sold by Amazon so you may be able to get it in Oz

I don’t know in Autralia in the U.K. Use Iburn is. Scotland soda similar to Colombiana
Colette says
We’ve made it with Strawberry flavored Fanta soda before and that works really great too.
