More about My Life Lately... (Erica Parte Dos...)

I was feeling homesick and melancholy last Monday, and for a whole week I thought it was my hormones!!!! When I get like this, I miss Colombia, my house, my family, my friends, and I don't even want to speak in English... it sounds weird right? But maybe it wasn't my pregnant hormones...

So sorry to hear about the job - uh...isn't it ILLEGAL to let someone go because of pregnancy?????? What the heck??

Things always work out...and I think this little one wants to you around lots - at least in the beginning, so it's all a blessing! So neat to watch you transform. =)

I'm with Belinda on this one and I think things happen for a reason. I know everybody says that but it's true. Just think of how many working women would love to be in your place to spend more time with their babies. It is definitely a blessing.

Sorry to hear about this Erica. In Greece the law is very strict and they are not allow to fire you during pregnancy, You have to check this and make sure you protect your rights. Sorry I haven't been around but trying to finish the book. I read a lot of posts but don't leave comments but I had to let you know about this. Take care of yourself. xoxoxo

      Hey Erica
      Congratulations for your pregnancy 🙂
I'm also 18 weeks pregnant now and is nice to read about someone living similar situations at the same time as you....
I'm also still dealing with the morning sickness (not as bad as a month ago but still comes back some days)
I also feel very tired and well... i used to work installing hardwood floors so for obvious reasons i cant work anymore so I have decided to stay home and relax and just be a mommy for some time 🙂
I know how hard is to miss your country, your friends and family and I hope you feel better soon and know that in Toronto is a friend if you need to talk sometime 🙂
God bless you and your family,
      Carolina

So very illegal! That company is playing with fire, you could defenitely get them in trouble if you so wished. You mgiht want to mention to them that you know how illegal that was and warn them that next time they do that to someone that person might not be so kind to not sue.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi, Erica I'm so sorry about your job - it seems very unfair, if not illegal. I don't think I had a chance to congratulate you on your pregnancy (so busy lately!) - congrats! This is definitely the most important thing to focus on, and very exciting. I hope you feel well soon, and get plenty of rest, and take good care of yourself! Many virtual hugs, Natasha

sorry to hear about the disappointing loss of this job; hope your Avon business takes off and you will be happy they let you go; congrats for the upcoming baby! When I was home with two kids to raise I felt like I was working so hard; now I know why some mothers want to work: it is easier!
anyway, I will definitely bookmark your Avon site: I remember back when I was wanting to buy some of the Avon products but did not know anyone who was selling them!
      Take care! J.

Years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, I too lost my job when I was about 5 or 6 months along. They called it down sizing...although they hired someone to replace me (then had the nerve to ask me to train her LOL). Anyways...when I was 7 months along, I actually got another job. Part time, in an office for a pet store. I stayed with that job for 16 yrs. You never know what doors will open up for you 🙂

Erica - I'm so glad that you decided to share this with us instead of holding it all in. I want you to know that I admire you for having the strength to be so far away from home. I know that it can't be easy. I hope that you can call home and talk with your family and friends on occasion.
Your former employer was not right in letting you go and I'm sorry to hear it. As a stay at home mom I understand that the part time job was important to you. Like everyone else, I do think that these things happen for a reason and I love that you bounced right back and already have another plan. Selling Avon sounds like a great idea and I would be more than happy to go check out your site!
I'm so glad to hear that your pregnancy is progressing well and glad to know that you are feeling better. You are a beautiful woman and I'm sure your growing belly is very cute:)

      Erica,
Congratulations on the (not so new) baby news! 🙂 🙂
I am absolutely sure that somehow loosing your job is a blessing in disguise. Maybe this is an opportunity to write a nice book of Colombian recipes that gringas like myself can proudly place on our coffee tables 😉 ...and of course cook from!!!
Question: Have you considered a nice candied ginger recipe post? My sister lived off of the stuff during her pregnancies to cure nausea.

Good luck and many blessing to you and your family!

Awww *Virtual Hug* I have been in that situation, and the hormones never go away, lol, but we have to go on, and it sucks right? I will be thinking about you. At times I wish I could have another child after I lost my daughter, so I am a bit jealous...you are such a wonderful person, cook, and blogger, so we look forward to your 'craving' foods of pregnancy. I chuckled when you said you did not even want to speak English anymore, so cute. I know its not easy saying 'Feel Better' and you receiving those words, but we look forward to coming back and following 🙂 Nice to see how others feel so human like we do.

Oh Erica I am so sorry ! Hugs to you. It is illegal to let someone becoz of pregnancy and that is why they will never tell you why. I can really relate to the homesick part with you. i have had both my children here with no help, no one visiting and it is as hard as it can get emotionally. hang in there and do let it out this way when you need to. we are all here to listen to you.. hugs again

I have a friend who does them. Not only does she love it, but she also makes good money with it. I just wanted to throw that out there to you, as it involves food, which you seem to have a passion for, and are definately excellent at preparing it! Good luck and best wishes to you!! Mary Beth

Erica, I am also very sorry that you lost your job, however, enjoy this chapter of your life. Enjoy your babies, mine are almost gone from home now, my youngest is a Senior in High School, and it is such a bittersweet moment! People used to say: "Enjoy them, time goes by too fast!" and now I look back and think, it was soooo true! So, think of it as a blessing in disguise. And, yes, try the candied ginger, it works! Un abrazo!!

Hi Erica - First congratulations on the new little one, what a precious gift.
I am happy to hear you are feeling better with each passing day.

I am also sorry to hear about the job situation. How awful that your former employer thinks so little of family and life values. But as some of your previous posters wrote, things happen for a reason and hopefully this was for the best. Good luck in the AVON business and keep the recipes coming because you are truly one talented lady! Your former employer may not have appreciated you, but we certainly know a treasure when we see it.

hello Erika I've recently found and learnt a bit about you and about your passion for colombian food aswell as other traditional foods. I'm Colombian but i live in London. like you I love reading or seeing programmes about other peoples lifes which I find quite funny in a waybut also very interesting.
The way i found out about you was because i've been searching for the best way or should i say the best recipe in making '' Torta negra'' which i've always enjoyed eating but haven't learnt how to make it. i would be very grateful if you knew how to make la Torta negra and post it on facebook website or sent me the recipe. i hope im not being too cheeky, I understand your pregnant, congratulations by the way. i also have a little boy whom i adore to bits. so i wish you the best with Avon and with your baby take care, i look forward to those lovely recipes of yours and knowing more about you or any woman problems you may have, i'm here for you as a friend that will listen any time. muchos besos y abrazos yamileth xxx

      Hi Erica,

I have a very small request.

I am not Colombian and do not have a Spanish keyboard. As such it is difficult to find recipes that use special characters unique to Spanish. Yesterday I was looking for Bunuelos but because I don't have "ennie" on my keyboard, it was not found in your recipe database. I know you have this recipe because I found it lon your site through Google.

And here is the request, can you provide for English alphabet friendly searches that find recipes? Not sure how to do it but whoever is hosting your blog may be able to assist.

      Thank you.

BTW, I got rave reviews after I made Pandebonos using your recipe. FYI, I was born in Poland and have lived in the US for over 40 years, basically a Gringo, who is married to a Colombian. She never thought that making Pandebonos, perfectly, on the first try was possible. hahahahaha

      Thanks!

Erica, Congratulations on your pregnancy, and my best wishes to you and your new baby. Many times in life, the best things happen when you are in the middle of a crisis such as after being laid off from your job. I pray that everything works out for you on this one. I am also from Medellín even though I have been living more than half of my life in Florida. I love all the recipes you have put out there. You are making look life an "Iron Chef" to my wife and kids.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job however Congrats on the baby! To help with the heartburn and the nausea try sipping hot ginger water. Buy a small piece of ginger. peel it outer skin off a little then thinly shave a couple of pieces in to a coffee mug add hot water and sip it really helps. the other thing to try is having on hand some candied ginger to nibble. Best Wishes to you and yours.

Mujer, you need to start shopping your cookbook. I have no idea why you haven't done this project. You have both a unique Colombian but also global, international flair to food (as you state in your blog slogan). Te juro, most people in this country have no idea that there is more to Latin American food than tacos.

Averigua en las redes sociales, conectate, encuentra un agente literario!! You owe it to yourself to channel and make a living out of your cooking passion and OWN YOUR OWN terms. Quite frankly, the world can't miss out on this any longer, you really have something special to offer in a world glutted with food mavens. No te lo diria si no lo creyera honestamente.

Bueno, y despues de toda esta cantaleta dejame felicitarate por tu embarazo y por salir de ese trabajo con gente poco etica. Mejorar averiguar temprano y no tarde. Igual te hubieran hecho alguna zancadilla mas adelante.
