This salmon with shrimp sauce recipe is simple to make and perfect for a weeknight meal or elegant enough for a party.

This week, for lunch, I made this Salmon with Shrimp Sauce for my sister and she just loved it! As I’ve mentioned, my sister is visiting from Colombia and one of the things I love about having her here is that we share the same enthusiasm about food.
We are having a great time together and a lot of my childhood memories are coming back including many of our favorite dishes that we shared growing up together. I will make all of those dishes for everyone soon 🙂 so keep coming back for more recipes!

Salmon with Shrimp Sauce
You know those dinners that look fancy but come together without a lot of work? This is one of them. Baked salmon topped with a creamy, savory shrimp sauce that tastes way more impressive than the short ingredient list would suggest. It’s great for a weeknight when you want something a little special, or for guests when you don’t want to spend the whole evening in the kitchen. The sauce is rich but not heavy, and the shrimp add a nice little bite.

Ingredients You'll Need
The printable recipe card with exact amounts and cooking directions to make this baked salmon with shrimp sauce is below.
- Salmon: I always have frozen fillets in my fridge. You can use your favorite fish if you don't like salmon.
- Spices: Salt, black pepper, paprika and cumin.
- Butter: I like to use unsalted butter.
- Vegetables: Onion
- Milk: I like to use whole milk for a creamier sauce.
- Flour: You need all-purpose flour to make the sauce.
- Heavy Cream
- Shrimp: You can add whole shrimp or pieces to the sauce.
- Fish Bouillon: It gives extra flavor to the sauce, but you can omit it.

How to Make this Baked Salmon
- Preheat the oven to 400° F.
- In a large baking dish place the salmon fillets. Season each fillet with paprika, salt and pepper.
- Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through.
- make the sauce: In a medium sauce pan over medium heat melt the butter, add the onions and cook for about 3 minutes or until translucent.
- Add the flour to the onions and stir. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the milk and bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer.
- Add the shrimp, salt, pepper, cumin and fish bouillon and cook for 5 minutes. Add the heavy cream and cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from the heat. Spoon shrimp sauce over the salmon and serve immediately.

How to Serve
I like to served this baked salmon with coconut rice, patacones and avocado on the side. Roasted and mashed potatoes are also a wonderful side this for this recipe.
Cooking Tips
- If the sauce gets too thick, splash in a little more milk.
- Want it a bit lighter? Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream, or even evaporated milk.
- This also works well with a little white wine added when you start the sauce if you like that flavor.
- Don't overcook the salmon. It should be moist and flaky, not dry.
- Fresh shrimp are great, but frozen shrimp work just fine. Just thaw them first.
- Keep the sauce at a gentle simmer. Boiling it too hard can make the cream separate.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Easy to make: No complicated steps or special cooking skills needed.
- Full of flavor: The combination of salmon, shrimp, garlic, and a creamy sauce is hard to beat.
- Perfect for seafood lovers: You get two favorites in one delicious dish.
- Great for entertaining: It looks impressive on the plate but is surprisingly simple to prepare.

Can You Make It Ahead of Time?
You can prepare the shrimp sauce a little ahead of time, but I recommend cooking the salmon just before serving. Seafood is always best when it's freshly cooked.
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently over low heat so the salmon doesn't dry out and the sauce stays creamy.
