This hot chocolate in coconut milk is creamy and delicious. The perfect drink for breakfast or afternoon snack.

Hot Chocolate with Coconut Milk-My Colombian RecipesPin

What’s not to love? For me this is heaven in a cup. Hot chocolate made in coconut milk or Chocolate en Leche de Coco is a traditional Colombian recipe and this delicious drink is perfect this time of year!

In Colombia we have different hot chocolate variations and we love to drink it for breakfast and afternoon snack. Chocolate Santafereño, Chocolate en Agua and Chocolate con Arequipe are some delicious hot chocolate recipes.

This recipe is one of my favorite ways to make hot chocolate. It's rich, creamy and the coconut flavor is wonderful.

Ingredients to Make Coconut Hot Chocolate

You'll find the printable recipe card with exact amounts and directions below.

Coconut Milk: I recommend using a good quality canned coconut milk.

Milk: I like to use whole milk for a rich drink.

Chocolate: Sweet or semi sweet chocolate, use your favorite brand and a good quality.

Coconut Extract: For extra coconut flavor.

Sugar: Add sugar to your taste, if you like sweet hot chocolate like I do.

    Shredded Coconut: Garnish before serving.

    Colombian Style Hot ChocolatePin

What to Serve with Hot Chocolate

Some of my favorite breads to serve with this coconut hot chocolate for snack are buñuelos, pandebono, almojábanas and pan blandito.

If you are serving this drink for breakfast try my cheese arepas, huevos pericos or arepa de huevo recipes.

This is a wonderful drink for these cold days, sounds so warming. I do love the ingredients you used here. I've never used coconut milk in such a drink. I must absolutely give it a try, but first I must look for coconut at bazaar.

Ooohh! I tried doing something simmilar for someone who doesn't like milk. I thought it was too thick - I'll have to try blending it like you do - yours sounds great.
