This simple and easy homemade hummus recipe is the perfect dip. It is quick to make and delicious with pita chips.

What is Hummus?
It's a Middle Eastern dip made with garbanzo beans (chickpeas), tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice and garlic. There are many variations of hummus around the world and cooks add different spices to their dip.

Hummus is one of my favorite dips and I usually just buy it store made, but it’s always good to make it at home as it’s easy, fresh and you can adjust the taste to your liking.

Ingredients You'll Need
The printable recipe card with exact amounts and directions is below.
Chickpeas: I like to use store-bought canned chickpeas to make this easy homemade hummus, because it's faster and I don't have to cook the garbanzo beans from scratch.
Tahini: It's a sesame seed paste. Get a good-quality tahini, because is one of the main ingredients to make delicious hummus.
Olive Oil: Use your favorite brand and good quality oil.
Lemon Juice: I recommend using fresh lemon juice to make this recipe.
Garlic: Adds extra flavor to the dip.
Water: It helps the dip to become smooth and creamy. Add more water if needed to your favorite consistency.
Spices: I like to add ground cumin, salt and pepper to my hummus.

How to Make Hummus?
Place the garbanzo beans and garlic in a food processor and mix for about 20 seconds.

Add the remaining ingredients and process to form a smooth paste. You can process to your favorite consistency, if you like it creamier just process longer and add more water if necessary.

Serve or store in a covered container in the refrigerator.

What to Serve with Hummus?
I love serving it with pita chips or pita bread, with carrot sticks, grape tomatoes, cucumber slices and celery.
I also like to add it to tuna sandwiches instead of mayo and to rice and chicken bowls.
