    Watermelon Juice Recipe (Jugo de Sandía)

    Jugo de Sandía also known as Jugo de Patilla in Colombia is a refreshing homemade watermelon juice. Perfect for a hot summer day. It can be used as a base to make Colombian Salpicón.

    This watermelon juice recipe (jugo de sandía) is delicious and extremely refreshing on a hot day. Try it, your kids will love you for it! You can omit the sugar in this drink if you prefer a naturally sweetened watermelon juice.

    How to Choose a Watermelon

    A good watermelon should feel heavy for its size. Should be firm and not have any soft spots. It also should be green and not shinny.

    How to Cut a Watermelon

    Place the watermelon on a cutting board and using a sharp knife cut about 1 inch off the top and 1 inch off the bottom.

    Place the watermelon onto one flat side and cut off the watermelon rind, moving the knife around the edge of the watermelon, be sure to cut any remaining white parts off. Then cut the watermelon into cubes.

    What Other Fruits Can You Add?

    This watermelon juice is perfect as a base for cocktails, smoothies and you can also add more fruits like strawberries or raspberries for a delicious variation.

    Storage Instructions

    Place the watermelon in the refrigerator after you cut it in an sealed container for up to 4 days.

    If you want to freeze your watermelon spread out the cubes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place it in the freezer for a a couple of hours or until frozen, this will prevent the watermelon cubes from sticking together. After the cubes are frozen, place them in a freezer-friendly, sealed container.

    Ingredients
     

    • 5 cups watermelon peeled and cut into chunks
    • 1 cup crushed ice
    • ¼ cup ice water
    • 2 tablespoons sugar

    Instructions
     

    • Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!

      As everyone says, it looks incredibly refreshing! I used to have watermelon juice often in Vietnam, but for some reason I've never bothered to make it here in the U.S. However, now that I have your recipe for it, this will soon change! 🙂
