The warm weather is finally here, and a cool, refreshing drink is always appreciated. In Colombia, fresh fruit drinks are very popular and always in season, as fruit is abundant anytime of the year. Variations of one of my favorite drinks, limonada (limeade), are served all over the country. The best places to sample these fresh fruit limeades are at fruit stalls located throughout the cities, beaches and towns.
I always have a hard time deciding which flavor to have because there are dozens of flavors and they are all fantastic! Some of my favorite ones are coconut, strawberry, mango, watermelon and this Limonada de Piña (Pineapple Limeade).
Buen provecho!
Ingredients
- 1 whole pineapple, peeled, cored and cut in medium size chunks
- 6 cups of water
- 1/2 cup sugar, or to your taste
- 1/4 cup lime juice
Directions
- Working in batches place the pineapple chunks with the water, sugar and lime juice in the blender and blend well.
- Strain the limeade and serve with ice.
