Perro Caliente Colombiano is one of the best ways to serve a hot dog. There are a some of variations to Colombian-Style Hot Dogs in the country, some of the popular toppings are pineapple sauce, pink sauce, ketchup, mustard, crushed potato chips and quail eggs.

Colombian-Style Hot Dogs is one of those recipes that I really enjoyed preparing. There are a lot of things that I miss about my country, but the three that I miss the most are my family, my friends and the food.

Medellin, like other cities in the world, has hot dogs stands on the streets and this recipe is very popular with them. When my friends and I would go out to dance, we would usually end up at one of the best hot dog stands located on Poblado Avenue in Medellin at 2 o’ clock in the morning. I really miss those times.
This hot dog recipe is very easy to make and perfect for a backyard party. Create a hot dog bar with all the toppings and every guess can add their favorite.

How to Make Colombian Hot Dogs?
In Colombia we don’t grill the hotdogs or salchichas, we boil them and the toppings include coleslaw, pineapple sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, pink sauce and potato chips. Some people like to add quail eggs, cheese and bacon to their Colombian-Style Hot Dogs.
- In a medium pot bring water to a boil. Add the hot dogs to the boiling water and cover. Cook about 7 minutes.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Place the hot dogs in the buns and top with pineapple sauce, coleslaw, mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup, topped with crushed potato chips. Serve and enjoy!
The full recipe card with exact amounts and directions for the pineapple sauce is below.

Cooking Tips
If you are a vegetarian, you can buy veggie dogs and use the same toppings. They will be delicious.
I recommend buying very good quality hot dogs. I usually boil mine, but if you prefer just grill them.
You can make the pineapple sauce and coleslaw one day ahead to make it easier.

Side Dishes to Serve with Hot Dogs
You can serve these Colombian hot dogs on his own, but if you want to have side dishes to serve with them. Here are some recipes that are perfect for the summer.
Ensalada de Zanahoria y Remolacha (Beets and Carrot Salad)
Chuyaco (Orange and Scallions Salad)

This Colombian-Style hot dog is one my favorite summer recipes. If you want to make more unique hot dogs this season try my hot dog with chimichurri, hot dog with guacamole or salchipapas for your kids.

I seriously hate Colombian hot dogs. I'm from Miami and they were a trend down here for a while, and I absolutely don't get it. I call them "everything but the kitchen sink hot dogs". They use like 20 toppings on the same dog, toppings that make no sense. All those clashing flavors make it so it just tastes like mud.

Ugh. Take the negativity elsewhere. Some people don’t like lots of things...you don’t need to jump on here and be a hater. Why did you even click on the link or waste time to spread your ugliness?

The combination of flavours are so complementary to one another that they are in unison. Just be careful that you don't use too much mustard though because that may be overpowering. I'm going to be experimenting a little with hot sauce on this later too!
