Plátanitos are perfect for snack or side dish. These green plantain chips are simple and delicious. This a popular dish in Colombia and Latin America.

    What are Plátanitos?

They are thin chips made with green plantains and fried in oil. In Colombian you will find them in any supermarket in bags, just like you find potatoes chips in the United States.

However, the best plátanitos are prepared fresh at home and they are very easy to make. The recipe only requires 3 ingredients and less than 30 minutes.

How do I Serve Plantain Chips

Serve them as an appetizer or snack with garlic sauce, salsa rosada or avocado sauce. They are also delicious as a side dish with seafood.

What You Need to Make this Recipe

You'll find the printable recipe car with amounts and directions below.

Plantains: You need green plantain to make platanitos.

Oil: I recommend using vegetable or canola oil to fry the plantain chips.

Salt: It gives that extra flavor to the chips. You can also use sea salt if you want a little extra crunchy texture.

    How to Make Plátanitos

Peel the plantains and using a mandolin or a sharp knife, slice the plantains (the thinner the better).

Fill a large skillet with enough vegetable oil to completely cover the plantain chips. Heat the oil to 360° F.

Fry the plantains in the hot oil, turning occasionally until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with salt to taste and transfer to a serving plate.

As a kid growing up, one thing I'd always buy from the canteen is freshly made plantain chips!

I wish I had a fryer so I could make these! I always make such a mess when I fry on the top of the stove.

I worked on a cruise ship this summer that traveled to Honduras where I bought some plantain chips from a market and fell in love with them. Now, I'm back in the USA and I can't find them anywhere. I really want them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone tell me a store that I buy them from?

Ashley, have you tried looking in the Hispanic aisle at costcos? If you can find them their go to a Hispanic store, they should have them stoked. At least that's where I always buy them.
