Plantain chips or Plátanitos are very popular in Colombia. You will find them in any supermarket in bags, just like you find potatoes chips in the United States. However, the best platanitos are prepared fresh at home. Try them with avocado sauce.
INGREDIENTS
(4-6 SERVINGS)
2 large green plantains
Vegetable oil (for frying)
Salt
DIRECTIONS
1. Peel the plantains and using a mandolin or a sharp knife, slice the plantains (the thinner the better).
2. Fill a large skillet with enough vegetable oil to completely cover the plantain chips. Heat the oil to 360° F.
3. Fry the plantains in the hot oil, turning occasionally until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with salt to taste and transfer to a serving plate.

As a kid growing up, one thing I’d always buy from the canteen is freshly made plantain chips!
I’ve made plantain chips before and loved them but I absolutely have to try them with the avocado sauce!
Thank you for your comments!
Natasha, you have to try them with the avocado sauce or guacamole!
I wish I had a fryer so I could make these! I always make such a mess when I fry on the top of the stove.
I worked on a cruise ship this summer that traveled to Honduras where I bought some plantain chips from a market and fell in love with them. Now, I’m back in the USA and I can’t find them anywhere. I really want them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone tell me a store that I buy them from?
Ashley- I usually make them at home.
