Easy Plátanitos recipe perfect for snack or side dish. These green plantain chips are simple and delicious. This a popular dish in Colombia and Latin America.
Plátanitos (Green Plantain Chips)
Ingredients
- 2 large green plantains
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt
Instructions
- Peel the plantains and using a mandolin or a sharp knife, slice the plantains (the thinner the better).
- Fill a large skillet with enough vegetable oil to completely cover the plantain chips. Heat the oil to 360° F.
- Fry the plantains in the hot oil, turning occasionally until brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with salt to taste and transfer to a serving plate.

Plantain chips or Plátanitos are very popular in Colombia. You will find them in any supermarket in bags, just like you find potatoes chips in the United States. However, the best platanitos are prepared fresh at home. Try them with avocado sauce.

I worked on a cruise ship this summer that traveled to Honduras where I bought some plantain chips from a market and fell in love with them. Now, I'm back in the USA and I can't find them anywhere. I really want them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone tell me a store that I buy them from?

Ashley, have you tried looking in the Hispanic aisle at costcos? If you can find them their go to a Hispanic store, they should have them stoked. At least that's where I always buy them.
I tried making them at home once but it totally didn't worked out. The first ones ccame out perfectly but the rest. .... oh man!
