    Colombian Street Food (Comida Callejera)

Eating Colombian street food is one of the best ways to experience authentic and traditional dishes without spending a lot of money.

    Perro Caiente ColombianoPin

If you are planning to visit Colombia this list will be a guide to find some popular street foods.

Like most Colombian traditional dishes, each region has its own local street food. You'll will find it all over the country in kiosks, stalls and wooden carts around the streets in every city, beach and center of small towns.

If you are like me living in another country and craving comida callejera Colombiana often, this post has more than 25 of my favorite dishes that I recreated at home.

Colombian Hot Dogs Recipe (Perro Caliente Colombiano)
Colombian-Style Hot Dogs is one of those recipes that I really enjoyed preparing. There are a lot of things that I miss about my country, but the three that I miss the most are my family, my friends and the food. Medellin, like other cities in the world, has hot dogs stands on the streets.

    Colombian Empanadas Recipe
These Colombian Empanadas are a popular snack in Colombia and are served by most Colombian restaurants in the USA. Traditionally, these delicious fritters are made with shredded pork and beef, but in my family we always make them with ground meat. Serve them with ají and lime wedges on the side. In Colombia, empanadas are.

    Colombian Buñuelos Recipe
Buñuelos are a traditional Colombian Christmas treat, but they are also popular year round for breakfast with hot chocolate or coffee. On December 7th in Colombia, friends get together to celebrate “el dia e las velitas”, a Christmas tradition in honor of the Virgin Mary. They light candles in front of their houses or on.

Arepas de Choclo con Quesito (Colombian Corn Cakes with Fresh Cheese)
Arepas de Choclo or Chócolo are absolutely my favorite arepas. I would eat them every day if I could. These traditional and popular Arepas  from the Andean region of Colombia are the perfect breakfast or afternoon snack served with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate. These Arepas de Choclo or Chócolo can be

Arepa de Huevo Recipe (Arepa Stuffed with Egg)
Arepa de Huevo is a typical dish from the Caribbean region of Colombia where they are sold on street stalls. These arepas are served in Colombian homes for breakfast, but I remember my family making them for dinner so you can serve them at any time of the day. This Arepa de Huevo  or Colombian

Fresas Con Crema (Strawberries with Cream)
Fresas con Crema are total decadence for me. You would think that after eating a filling meal like a Colombian Tamal or Bandeja Paisa that it would be impossible to find room for anything else. However, even then, I can never refuse a glass full of fresh and delicious strawberries drowning in sweet cream drizzled

Beef Skewers Recipe (Chuzos de Res)
Sitting in an asadero or barbecue restaurant in Colombia eating a beef, pork or chicken skewer with arepa and papa salada is like heaven to me. Street vendors set up outside the clubs and bars in Medellín, serving all kinds of skewers and grilled corn. The flavor of these Chuzos de Res is fantastic.

Carimañola is a traditional dish from the Caribbean region of Colombia. It is a yuca fritter stuffed with meat, or cheese for a great vegetarian version. This dish is also popular in Panamá. I usually don’t like to eat fried food, but once in a while I crave my Colombian fritters. Since I have to

    Almojábanas (Colombian Cheese Bread)
These Colombian Almojábanas are delicious for breakfast or for an afternoon snack with a cup of coffee. I published an almojábana recipe several years ago and it’s loved by many readers, but I was not completely happy with the recipe. I am not a baker, but, I’ve certainly improved my baking skills over the years!.

Salchipapas (Potato Fries and Hot Dogs)
Salchipapas is one of those dishes you are going to find all over Colombia on the kids menu at restaurants. I grew up eating Salchipapas con Salsa Rosada and I still enjoy this traditional Colombian snack.

Maizitos con Tocineta (Corn al Gratin with Bacon)
When I lived in Medellin, I often ate at a fast food restaurant with my friends called "Mario Bross". I always ordered the same thing, Maizitos, sometimes with bacon and other times just plain. Either way was absolutely delicious. This is the perfect snack for me. It is a bubbling dish of melted cheese and

Palitos o Deditos de Queso (Cheese Sticks)
Palitos de Queso are sticks of white cheese (queso blanco), wrapped with dough and fried until golden. A family party in Colombia was not a party without Palitos or Deditos de Queso. I'm a Colombian who loves and misses Colombian food, even though some of those foods are just a bit unhealthy, like this Fritanga o Picada Colombiana, a platter of fried meats and vegetables.
